This gorgeous sculpture is a result of my explorations of using harakeke/nz flax in a different way to create form. The inspiration comes from the adorable little piwakawaka/fantail flitting around our whare/house. Their company gives me a sense of happiness and joy.
The harakeke leaves have been dried into curled stalks. The thread is waxed Irish linen that guarantees that the binding is firm yet flexible. The ends have been partially dyed.
Manu can be carefully moved and turned into several forms because of it's flexibility. Depending on lighting the cast shadows will add to the work.
Spots and irregularities in colour are part of the work, they are enhancing their natural beauty.
Only for inside use.
Size about 20cm x 30cm x 30cm
