Impressions of Nature on Silk
Eco dyeing, also known as leaf or eco print, is a gentle, alchemical process where the natural pigments of leaves are transferred directly onto fabric, creating one-of-a-kind botanical imprints.
Join me for a full day of slow making and discovery as we explore this beautiful dialogue between nature and cloth. In the morning, we’ll forage around the hall, gathering leaves and foliage that speak to us. You’ll learn how to prepare and bundle silk with plant materials, drawing out colours and patterns from the landscape itself.
In the afternoon, you’ll design and dye your own silk scarf — a wearable memory of place and season, marked by the delicate traces of nature’s touch.
You will learn
• which plants and fibres work best for this method
• how to use an iron mordant to enhance colour and detail
• different bundling techniques and approaches
All materials and tools will be provided for use during the workshop.
Your workshop fee includes silk fabrics to explore and experiment with, one silk scarf to design and dye, and a detailed handout with information on mordants, dye plants, tips, and useful resources.
A ‘what to bring’ list (including suggestions for clothing and optional items) will be sent out closer to the workshop date.
